Being that Joseph's trade was that of a carpenter, it would be reasonable that he would instruct the young Jesus in that profession. How fitting then to imagine that Christ would fashion a wooden cross, knowing as He did of the time of His Passion and Death at the age of 33 was to come. For now, the Holy Family sits here peacefully, prayerfully considering the wonders of God's mercy.
