Nearly a Century of Service
In 1929, the same year Pope Pius XI issued his encyclical Divini Illius Magistri on Christian education, Leaflet Missal was founded with a mission to educate and serve the Catholic faithful.
For nearly 100 years, we’ve been a trusted partner in faith, offering one of the most comprehensive selections of authentic Catholic goods and supplies, a legacy born from the missionary zeal of our founders. We now offer a selection of over 10,000 different Catholic items, from rosaries and statues to crucifixes and jewelry - as well as essential gifts for the different sacraments and seasons of the Church.

"Leaflet Missal" - What Does it Mean?
When Leaflet Missal began in 1929, Mass was still celebrated in Latin, and understanding it could be challenging for many. That’s when Fr. Paul Bussard, Fr. Edward Jennings, and later Fr. Louis Gales published the first Sunday missalettes in St. Paul, Minnesota, creating a way for Catholics to engage more fully in the Latin Mass. Many people ask what our name, "Leaflet Missal", means - well now you know! This leaflet-style missal publication soon had a nationwide reach, with nearly half a million subscribers to the weekly missalettes and even more for funeral and wedding special editions.
In fact, we were humbled when the White House called, selecting and trusting us to produce the missal for President Kennedy’s funeral Mass in 1963 - which we of course took on proudly.

Built on Family, Grounded in Community
In 1980, the Welvang family took over ownership of Leaflet Missal. With this ownership change also came a large business model change. Leaflet Missal went from a missal publishing company to a Catholic and religious goods retailer - eventually expanding to church goods as well. With the business still in the family to this day, we continue to carry forward our mission with the same passion and dedication that has been core to the business since 1929.
As a retailer with both a physical and online presence, we are uniquely grounded in the experience of engaging with customers, face to face, each day. Our storefront in St. Paul, Minnesota, is the heart of our operation. Here, we connect with our customers, listen to your needs, and develop new products and services that resonate with the Catholic community.

In the same building as the store is our warehouse and fulfillment center. While most customers have never even seen this space, it drives the entire business! The moment your order is placed, we begin fulfillment from Minnesota to your doorstep. Product personalization, picking and packing orders, catalog design, and much more happens here. All online and phone orders are shipped directly out of this St. Paul warehouse, operating Monday-Saturday every week (closed on holy days and Sundays of course)!
Our commitment extends beyond our store to parishes and schools across the nation. Our nationally distributed catalog is one of the most extensive in the world. Our catalog is complemented by our robust online presence, reaching Catholics around the globe through our newly refreshed Catholic Home and Church brand.

Supporting our Seminarians
St. Paul is home to two national seminaries - St. John Vianney College Seminary and The Saint Paul Seminary. Our store often buzzes with the energy of young seminarians preparing for their vocations, whether they’re looking for a cassock, a chalice, or a Mass kit as they approach ordination. Recognizing their vital role in the Church, we established the “Support a Seminarian” program. This initiative connects generous customers with seminarians, providing much-needed financial support to those answering God’s call.
If you feel called to support a seminarian, please follow this link, submit the short form, and we will reach out to you with next steps!
