Trouble with understanding

I thought this would be in terms I can understand more. I have catholic Bibles and I sometimes have a hard time understanding the readings. Maybe I need to try a reminders course because I am a cradle born catholic who has been trying for years to get a better understanding since I fell away from the church for years.
