The Catholic Church teaches that each of us is assigned a powerful guardian angel to watch over us. Guardian Angels are with us from the moment of our birth, until we draw our last breath. These heavenly beings, pure spirits are created by God. They are given the sacred duty of guiding and protecting us through the joys and trials of our earthly pilgrimage. Their superior intellect and strength flow from the Lord.

Our guardian angels unfailingly intercede for us, warding off spiritual dangers and inspiring us toward virtue. They are more than merely symbolic guardians. Above all, they are constant companions who continually present our needs before the throne of the Lord. By growing in devout awareness of the presence of our guardian angel, we open ourselves to receive the full effects of their heavenly aid and advocacy.

The Lowly Guardian Angels, A Unique Gift for Us

Your "personal" angel is in the ninth, and therefore lowest choir of angels. However, this does not diminish the importance of this heavenly being. In the book of Matthew, Christ uttered these words, "See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven." Furthermore, Saint Basil the Great said, “Beside each believer stands an angel as protector and shepherd leading him to life.” Saint Thomas Aquinas echoed this sentiment by declaring "Each man has a guardian angel assigned to him."

Prayer to Your Guardian Angel

Angel of God, my guardian dear, To whom God's love commits me here, Ever this day, be at my side, To light and guard, Rule and guide. Amen. Angel of God, my guardian dear, To whom God's love commits me here, Ever this day, be at my side, To light and guard, Rule and guide. Amen.
