St. Patrick was sold into slavery as a boy and lived among the pre-Christian Irish people for years before escaping to Britain. He would become a priest, and his vocation would be to return to the island of his captivity and bring the message of the gospel. It is said he drove all the serpents from Ireland, and used the shamrock to explain the Trinity.
