Patron of music in third century Rome, a young girl named Cecilia vowed her virginity to God. In prayers to the angels and saints, Cecilia asked their help in keeping her promise. Despite her vow, Cecilia's parents gave her in Marriage to a young man named Valerian. At her wedding, Cecilia sang in her heart to Christ praying that her virginity might be preserved intact. On her Wedding night, Cecilia told her husband that an angel protected her, leading him to convert. She later became a martyr for her faith, surviving horrific torture before being beheaded, famously singing to God throughout.
