When God declared that Lucifer was to be cast out of Heaven, His justice was fulfilled by Saint Michael the Archangel. For this act of loyalty he was named Prince of the Nine Choirs. Here the angelic spirit is shown holding the scales of justice, symbolic of his role in seeing God's will, which is always just, done on Earth in the Church and in Heaven.
