Aloysius Schwartz, known as “Father Al,” dedicated his life to helping poor and orphaned children in Asia and Latin America. Inspired by the poverty he witnessed in South Korea after the Korean War, he established orphanages, boarding schools, Boystowns, and Girlstowns in South Korea, the Philippines, and Mexico. He also founded the Sisters of Mary and Brothers of Christ to support these communities. Despite eventually being diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease, Father Al remained hopeful and cheerful, trusting in his faith and believing that God was waiting for him in heaven.
